Peter Munk dreamed of
repaying his debt to Canada

In Honour of Peter Munk (1927 – 2018)

The passing of Peter Munk is not only our loss. It is a loss for all of Canada.

Peter’s legacy of giving to Toronto General Hospital – more than $177 million – is extraordinary. Last September, Peter and Melanie Munk announced a historic gift of $100 million to the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre. This was the largest-ever single gift to a Canadian hospital. Their philanthropy will continue to transform the future of heart health for years to come.

Peter always said, “My family came to Canada with no money and no skills, just a plea to take us in. Ever since then, my dream has always been to repay my debt to Canada.”

We will forever be grateful for Peter’s remarkable generosity, extraordinary vision and leadership.

Thank you Peter Munk for reminding us all what it means to be human, I mean Canadian - may your kind, generous and wise spirit RIP, yet live on as a reminder to us all of what it truly means to be Canadian and how grateful we should all be... now, more than ever can we all benefit from this inspiration, reminder and hope for humanity... Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those whose lives you've touched. My father was a fortunate/blessed receiver of world class care and kindness at TGH and we are too are forever grateful.
