Grand Cru 2016 ages like a fine wine
The 12th annual Grand Cru Culinary Wine Festival, Canada’s premier wine and culinary fundraiser for medical research and innovation, raised $1.5 million for UHN. Presented by BMO Wealth Management, proceeds from the event will support the Arthritis Program, the Multi-Organ Transplant Program and the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre at UHN. Since its inception in 2005, the Festival has raised over $22.7 million.
Chaired by TGWHF Board member & Grand Cru Founder, Todd Halpern, the 12th annual Grand Cru Culinary Wine Festival took place October 28th and October 29th. Guests came from Montreal, Ottawa, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida and Bordeaux, France.
On Saturday, October 29, 500 guests attended the 17 Grand Cru Exclusive Wine & Dine Experience dinners which took place across the GTA. Each dinner featured a menu prepared and presented by a top chef, extraordinary wine, and a senior UHN clinician or researcher, from whom guests learned about the latest discoveries and life-saving breakthroughs at UHN.
Chefs participating included, Jason Cox, David Hawksworth, Lorenzo Loseto, Daniel Boulud & Matt Binkley. Participating Wine Estates included Castello di Ama, Tuscany Italy, Silver Oak Cellars, Napa, California, Remoissenet Père et Fils, Burgundy, France, Hugel & Fils, Alsace, France, Dal forno Romano, Veneto Italy, and Jackson Family Wines, Sonoma California.
The annual Grand Cru Appreciation Party, attended by approximately 250 guests, took place on Friday, October 28th at the Capitol Event Theatre. The Appreciation Party celebrated Grand Cru chefs, wine estates, hosts, UHN scientists, VIP guests and event sponsors.
“UHN researchers are exploring ways to deliver better care, treatments and therapies to our patients,” says Dr. Peter Pisters, President and CEO of UHN. “The proceeds from this year’s Grand Cru will help them find solutions for heart failure, change the way arthritis care is delivered, and restore breathing in lung patients. Thank you to our philanthropic partners, and to Todd Halpern, for leading this event through another successful year.”
VIP transportation for the event was provided by returning sponsor Grand Touring Automobiles, Official Luxury Vehicle of Grand Cru.
