Dr. Robert Devenyi

Ophthalmologist-in-Chief and Director of Retinal Services,
Toronto Western Hospital, University Health Network

A leader in delicate eye surgery and pioneer in revolutionary treatments for macular degeneration, Dr. Devenyi joined Toronto Western Hospital in 1988 as staff ophthalmologist and lecturer in the Department of Ophthalmology at U of T, where he is now a Full Professor. In 2002 he was appointed Ophthalmologist-in-Chief at Toronto Western Hospital. As Director of Retinal Services, Dr. Devenyi oversees the largest retinal surgery unit in North America, treating the highest volumes of retinal diseases in Canada, including an increasing incidence of macular degeneration. Dr. Devenyi holds numerous hospital appointments in Canada and the United States. He is also Team Ophthalmologist for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Dr. Martin Steinbach

Director of the Vision Science Research Program,
Toronto Western Hospital, University Health Network

With numerous awards and distinctions,Dr.Steinbach is among the leaders in his field, having held positions at MIT, The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and York University’s Centre for Vision Research, of which he is a founding member. He has been appointed Distinguished Research Professor at York University, an award presented to senior scholars with international reputations and scholarly achievements. As well as studying oculomotor function in patients having surgical or pharmacological treatment of strabismus, Dr. Steinbach focuses his research on the development of visual function in children having had an eye removed early in life. The dedicated author and co-author has published over 100 articles and book chapters pertaining to his research interests.
