A Message From RSM Richter:

For the past 11 years, RSM Richter has been bringing people together for a day of golf and fundraising benefiting charitable organizations in our community. To date, our annual golf tournament has raised almost $1 million in support of health-related causes including spinal cord and Alzheimer’s research, juvenile diabetes and Multiple Sclerosis – an achievement possible through the incredible support of our many friends and sponsors.

On June 17, 2009, the 12th Annual RSM Richter Charity Golf Classic was held at the award-winning Club at Bond Head just outside of Toronto. Proceeds from the event supported the work of Dr. Robert J. Cusimano, a leading cardiovascular surgeon at the world-renowned Peter Munk Cardiac Centre at Toronto General Hospital.

With the help of sponsors and the generosity of an anonymous donor who offered to match funds raised by RSM Richter up to $150,000, the proceeds of the 2009 event will purchase a state-of-the-art echocardiograph system for Dr. Cusimano and the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre that will help to transform cardiac care in Canada.

In Canada, more than five million people suffer from various forms of heart disease. Researchers in the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre at Toronto General Hospital are working hard to discover new ways to treat and cure them.
Among those leading the fight is Dr. Robert Cusimano, one of Canada’s top cardiovascular surgeons, specializing in surgical treatment of heart failure. Dr. Cusimano’s expertise and innovation is helping to advance the treatment of life-threatening and complex heart conditions, and giving people with heart disease a second chance at life.

Echocardiography remains the most important and most frequently used non-invasive exam to guide cardiac diagnosis and therapy for almost all conditions. The proceeds of the 2009 RSM Richter Charity Golf Classic will provide Dr. Cusimano with the funds to purchase the first echocardiography system to generate 3-dimensional measurements of the heart in less than one minute. This new generation of cardiac ultrasound will give Dr. Cusimano and his team new levels of image quality to guide their surgical repairs of the heart.
