About Fudge Foundation
In the summer of 2006, Kavan "Fudge" Layne was brought face-to-face with the reality of his life – a blood disorder known as Sickle Cell Anemia ran through his blood stream. What started out as mild cold symptoms, Fudge drove him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with Acute Chest Syndrome. From there, things rapidly started to escalate from a mere cold to Fudge falling into a coma for over a week.
When he woke, Fudge was entirely dependant on medical treatment in order to survive. Following numerous blood transfusions, respirators and catheter dependencies, Fudge made a person commitment to dedicate his life to helping those inflicted with the same disease, educating his community and mobilizing research efforts to help find a cure for Sickle Cell Anemia.
Putting his commitment in motion, Kavan and several of his friends formed the Fudge Foundation in 2007. Established to address various social and health issues across Canada, the Fudge Foundation primarily raises funds for Sickle Cell research, generating revenue by working with volunteers, community organization and corporations.
As a person living with Sickle Cell Anemia and with a natural ability to connect with people, Kavan "Fudge" Layne hopes to inspire others to join him in his mission to find a cure for sickle cell disease.
