Dr. Nizar Mahomed is a leading orthopaedic surgeon at Toronto Western Hospital, University Health Network. In addition to being Director of the Arthritis Program, he directs the Lower Extremity Arthritis Program. Dr. Mahomed graduated from the University of Toronto in 1988. His orthopaedic training and arthroplasty fellowship was at U of T. In 1999, Dr. Mahomed obtained a Doctor of Science in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Mahomed is the Managing Director of UHN Rehab Solutions a Department at UHN that provides health care services to injured workers and others with third party insurance. Rehab Solutions operates out of Toronto Western Hospital and satellite clinics in Mississauga, Cambridge and Sudbury.
Dr. Mahomed's is a professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. His research includes health systems research focusing on models for care for orthopaedic conditions and translational research looking at regenerative options for osteoarthritis. Dr. Mahomed is the recipient of the first CIHR-CMAJ Top Canadian Achievements in Health Research Award.
He is a member of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association, the American Orthopaedic Association, the Hip Society and the Knee Society.
