Viktor Örn Andrésson and Þráinn Freyr Vigfússon are the Head Chefs at Blue Lagoon‘s LAVA Restaurant, they are stars in Iceland’s Culinary world. They are the captains of the Icelandic culinary team and have gained broad experience in Iceland and abroad.Prior to joining Blue Lagoon in 2010 Viktor worked at Þverá River High Class fishing lodges in the Mountains in Iceland. He was a Head Chef at the popular Domo Restaurant in Reykjavik from 2008 – 2010, a Chef de partie and Sous Chef at Domo from 2007 – 2008.
Viktor placed 2nd in the Chef of the Year Competition in Iceland in 2008. He partcipated in Commis Bocuse´dor with Ragnar Ómarsson as an assistant and the team reached 5th place in the competition 2005 . In 2009, he participated as an assistant in the same competition with Friðgeir Ingi Friðgeirsson from Hotel Holt reaching the 8th place of 24 nations in this challenging competition.
Prior to joining Blue Lagoon this year Þráinn Freyr worked has Head Chef at Kolabrautin Restaurant from 2011 – 2013. He started his culinary training at Café Opera from 2001-2003, Chef de partie and Sous Chef at Grillið, Hotel Saga from 2003 – 2011, In 2011 Þráinn Freyr took the seventh place in the Bocuse d‘Or, one of the world’s most prestigious international cooking competitions. He was awarded the silver medal in the Scandinavian chef of the year in 2009. Þráinn was awarded the gold medal in the culinary competition One World in 2008, he won the respected award of being the Icelandic Chef of the year in 2007.
