Grand Cru Culinary Wine Festival

History & Photos

The 5th annual Grand Cru Culinary Wine Festival was a great success raising approximately $1.7 million dollars, bringing the total amount raised over 5 years up to $7.5 million dollars!

PHOTO GALLERYThis year’s Festival events included the Riedel Glass Tasting by Georg Riedel, the Halpern Portfolio Wine Tasting, and the Live Auction at the Allstream Centre, and the Exclusive Wine and Dine Experiences that took place at 31 of Toronto’s most magnificent and lavish homes.

UHN scientists, Toronto’s elite corporate community, wine connoisseurs, prominent local and international chefs, and notable vintners fused their talents once again to create an exquisite, memorable evening for all.

Funds raised at this years’ Grand Cru will support the McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine and basic research at Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital.

McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine
Regenerative medicine focuses on healing techniques that use cells to repair or grow tissues, organs and new cells. The world-leading research currently underway at the McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine holds immense potential to generate transformative treatments for conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, spinal cord injury and cancer.

Supporting Research
The scope of research and complexity of cases at University Health Network have made it a national and international source for discovery, education and patient care. It has the largest hospital-based research program in Canada, with major research in diabetes, transplantation, cardiology, neurosciences, oncology, surgical innovation, infectious diseases, and genomic medicine.

Your participation in Grand Cru provides extraordinary research support to the outstanding medical researchers at University Health Network. These investigators are internationally recognized leaders whose work is transformative in their field. Funds from Grand Cru will help to retain them in Toronto and enable them to significantly expand their research programs.

Our sincere appreciation goes out to the Event Co-chairs: Todd Halpern and Cheryl McEwen, Advisory Board Members, chefs, vintners, University Health Network scientists, sponsors, hosts and guests for their commitment and dedication to making the 2009 Grand Cru Culinary Wine Festival such a “Grand” success!
