Dr. Nizar Mahomed is a leading orthopaedic surgeon at Toronto Western Hospital, University Health Network. In addition to being Director of the Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis Program, he directs the Lower Extremity Arthritis Program. Dr. Mahomed graduated from the University of Toronto in 1988. His orthopaedic training and arthroplasty fellowship was at U of T, where he is currently Professor of Surgery.

In 1999, Dr. Mahomed obtained a Doctor of Science in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Mahomed is the Director of the Total Joint Network, a partnership between 26 institutions across Metro Toronto aiming to provide an integrated, evidence based model of care for joint replacement surgery.

He is also a member of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association, National Standards Committee, the American Orthopaedic Association and the Knee Society.

Dr. Mahomed's primary research focuses on the evaluation of process of care and outcomes of total joint arthroplasty.
