Dr. Erwin Oechslin, MD, FRCPC
Director, Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program, University Health Network and Mt. Sinai Hospital; Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Toronto; Bitove Foundation Professorship
As Director of the ACHD Program, Dr. Oechslin has a wealth of practical clinical experience and research. His research interests include long-term outcome and imaging in congenital heart disease. His research also examines how “cyanotic’ congenital heart disease, that is a defect in the heart that prevents blood from reaching the lungs and receiving oxygen, affects the organs in the long-term. His publications, in collaboration with many co-workers, were major contributions to the morphologic and genetic understanding of non-compaction of the myocardium, a specific heart muscle disease (cardiomyopathy). He has been actively involved in working groups related to the care of teenage and adult patients with congenital heart disease.
Universally admired, Dr. Oechslin brings a thoughtful and pragmatic approach to the challenge of providing quality treatment for patients with adult congenital heart disease.
