Improving the health of the Chinese-Canadian community
Patients of Chinese origin are one of the three highest populated ethnic patient groups treated at University Health Network (Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital), particularly in relation to diabetes, obesity, cancer, liver disease and mental health. 

Fairchild Radio Toronto and Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation (TGWHF) have partnered to help foster public education and care for patients of Chinese origin, ensuring that they have access to information in both Mandarin and Cantonese about our world-class medical programs, disease prevention and treatment while receiving the best healthcare possible.  

For patients and families who do not speak English or who are newcomers to Canada, the healthcare system can be overwhelming. Language and cultural differences can make it difficult for patients to communicate their needs and concerns — and to understand their treatment. Creating culturally competent healthcare programs and services that provide expert care for a multicultural population help keep our communities healthy.  Multicultural healthcare also empowers Chinese-Canadian patients and their families to become educated about some of the emerging health challenges and diseases that are impacting their quality of life.
