October 1, 2010 – We would like to thank you for your incredible support and generous contributions to Celebrate Science 2010 in support of the McEwen Centre and stem cell research.
Celebrate Science: The Stem Cell Healthcare Revolution and You! was an entire day focused on educating the community about cutting-edge research, and celebrating the innovative advancements in stem cell medicine and how it impacts Canadians and their health care today - and into the future.
Over 800,000 Canadians watched CTV’s Canada AM receive a ‘Behind the Scenes’ tour of the McEwen Centre with Co-host Seamus O’Regan, stem cell advocate Lisa Ray (actor/model/philanthropist) and Director of the McEwen Centre, Dr. Gordon Keller.
The afternoon continued with a public education symposium and Q&A where hundreds of eager and excited participants turned out to hear McEwen Centre scientists discuss the impact of stem cell research on diabetes, blood cell disorders and lung disease. Featured alongside the scientists were patient advocates sharing their personal stories.
The “Evening Celebrating Science” was a tremendous success due to the incredible generosity of supporters like you. Proceeds from this event have specifically helped us to launch the McEwen Centre Accelerated Discovery Initiative: Engineered Heart Tissue, with the goal of creating full functional heart tissue ready for grafting onto the damaged heart in years to come. The ability to repair the heart provides real hope for patients suffering from heart disease. Your leadership and support in ‘Adopting a Discovery’ will greatly help us accelerate research towards cures.
Lastly, we would love to invite you on a tour of the McEwen Centre to see and learn more about the latest innovations and advancement. Please contact Shauna Seabrook, Director Campaigns for the McEwen Centre at 416 340-4800 ext 3936 or shauna.seabrook@uhn.on.ca to arrange your tour.
Celebrate Science - The Stem Cell Revolution and You truly proved to be one of the most exciting and inspiring fundraising events of the year.
With great appreciation,
Cheryl McEwen
