Al & Malka Green Artists' Health Centre

The Al and Malka Green Artists’ Health Centre, opened in 2002, is the first of its kind in the world. Created in partnership with the Artists’ Health Centre Foundation on behalf of the artists’ community, the Centre specializes in treating both creative and performing artists, and its mandate includes research, education and outreach to the artistic community.  To address the occupational health problems of artists – such as joint injuries, voice problems, and psychological issues - the Centre provides primary and specialty medical care, as well as physiotherapy, massage, acupuncture, chiropractic, psychotherapy and support groups, and naturopathy.

The Artists' Health Centre Foundation was founded in 1997 by a group of artists and community leaders committed to promoting the well being of the artistic community.  It provides extensive education, advocacy, outreach and prevention services and resources for professional artists and is engaged in bringing international attention to the issues of artists’ health.  Its active partnership with the Toronto Western Hospital presents a working model that is unique in the health care field.

The dream of an Artists’ Health Centre began with Joysanne Sidimus, a visionary artist, who also promoted the need to provide funds for low income artists to access Centre treatments that are not covered by private or public health insurance plans. Proceeds from the Gala will be allocated to the subsidy fund that has been set up in her name.
