Dr. Stephen Lewis is an accomplished surgeon and gifted teacher of undergraduates. He graduated from McGill University in 1990 with a Medical Degree and then earned a Masters of Science Degree at the University of Toronto in 1997. A Spine and Trauma Fellowship at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto in 1998, and a Spine Fellowship with subspecialty training in spinal deformity at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 2000, followed his specialty training at U of T and Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Lewis joined University Health Network in 1998, appointed to the Department of Surgery, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and cross-appointed at the Hospital for Sick Children. He was cross-appointed in 2000 as Assistant Professor, Neurosurgery at U of T.
A prolific writer and speaker, Dr. Lewis has been published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (American); Journal of Surgery; Spine; and Journal of Surgical Oncology, among many others. He has criss-crossed North America visiting hospitals and universities for lecture presentations and conference participation.
Dr. Lewis has received several honours and awards recognizing him as a distinguished teacher of undergraduates and residents. In 2000 he received the prestigious North American Spine Society Outstanding Paper Award, in 2004 the Robert Salter Award for Outstanding Teaching of Orthopaedic Residents, and in 2005, the Education Award for Outstanding Contributions to Surgical Skills Education.
Dr. Lewis is a member of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association; Canadian Spine Society; North American Spine Society; and Scoliosis Research Society.

All appointments with the Orthopaedic Surgeons must be booked through a referral from your family physician. In order to obtain a referral, visit your family doctor. He or she will then fax a referral, along with all appropriate medical history and test results. The Orthopaedic Surgeon's office will book the appointment with your family doctor who will contact you with the date and time.
