Patricia Caron’s treatment gave her the green light on life!
Patricia Caron loves to sail but her life suddenly capsized when, at age 47, arthritis began to cripple her. In Patricia’s case, both her knees became severely painful. Anti-inflammatory drugs and injections of corticosteroids helped for a period of time but as the arthritis progressed, Patricia’s knees got worse. She became depressed, was sleeping poorly, barely able to climb stairs and struggling with a cane to get to work. “I couldn’t stand long enough to do even the simplest of tasks,” she says.
When finally referred to Dr. Nizar Mahomed, Director, Musculoskeletal Health & Arthritis Program, Toronto Western Hospital, both knees had to be replaced at once – surgery usually set six months apart. Now pain free, Patricia is sailing again. “I am so grateful,” she says. “Dr. Mahomed gave me more than new knees - he gave me back my life.”
