A new chapter in organ transplantation – Transplant Program will be home to University of Toronto Transplantation Institute
May 4, 2009 –It is one of the greatest honours in medical academia and practice. May 4th 2009, marks the 20th anniversary of the Multi-Organ Transplant Program, UofT and UHN will formally celebrate the creation of the University of Toronto Transplantation Institute. The Institute will solidify the Transplant Program as Canada’s first and the world’s foremost centre of transplantation excellence, providing a collaborative landscape for life-saving discoveries.
"University Health Network is honoured to serve as the physical home of the new University of Toronto Transplantation Institute. We have a remarkable group of people supporting our Multi Organ Transplant Program under the direction of Dr. Gary Levy," says UHN President Dr. Bob Bell.
The establishment of the new Institute is being celebrated at the Transplant Dinner on May 4th. The evening also includes a tribute to the Institute’s Founding Director, Dr. Gary Levy – a visionary leader, clinician, educator and scientist. Proceeds from the Dinner will support student training and research – a high priority for the new Institute.
The Institute will be led in its inaugural years by Dr. Levy and will be guided by a 12-member Advisory Board of stakeholders from across Uof T and its hospital partners, government, the business community and the public. They include UofT, UHN, Sick Kids, Sunnybrook and St. Michael’s Hospitals. For more information on Multi Organ Transplant Program, click here.Chris’s Unicycle Ride for the Gift of Life

Fourth Annual Transplant Open golf tournament in memory of Peter Laurence
June 5, 2008 – At the Granite Ridge Golf Club in Milton earlier this year, the fourth annual Transplant Open raised $40,000 in memory of Peter Laurence, who received a double lung transplant at Toronto General Hospital in 2001. In 2005, he organized and chaired the first annual Transplant Open golf tournament – a role he continued to fulfill until he passed away in 2007. This year, the tournament raised funds for Dr. Shaf Keshavjee’s Lung Transplant Program at Toronto General Hospital. Guests golfed, dined together and participated in a silent auction. A slide show presentation, in tribute to Peter Laurence, was featured during dinner.
