UHN Pioneers Telesimulation Training Worldwide

The Temerty/Chang International Centre for Telesimulation and Innovation in Medical Education is bridging a crucial gap in health care in developing countries. Using the latest telecommunications and simulation technology, the Temerty/Chang Telesimulation Centre provides training in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) techniques – online – for doctors in poor, isolated or under-resourced areas. Surgeons who complete the Temerty/Chang Telesimulation Centre’s program acquire the skills necessary to perform safer, less invasive procedures.

In the two years since the Temerty/Chang Telesimulation Centre launched its innovative education program – called telesimulation – it has trained 100 surgeons in countries such as Botswana, Peru, Nigeria, and Ethiopia.

With a critical shortage of surgical and other medical specialists in developing countries, it is essential that we increase our telesimulation capacity. Our goal is to raise $10 million to meet this rapidly growing demand.

With your support, we can reach more countries, expand resources to include other in-demand specialties such as obstetrics and maternal health, and improve outcomes for patients.

There’s always an answer. We’ll find it.
