Belinda Stronach creates Chair to benefit breast cancer survivors
Belinda Stronach has personally experienced the crisis of breast cancer. So when physician and fellow breast cancer survivor Dr. Marla Shapiro brought up the idea of a Chair to support reconstructive surgery, she didn’t hesitate to accept the challenge. Statistics estimate only 10 per cent of breast cancer survivors ever discuss reconstructive surgery with their doctors. “Losing your breasts is not only physically painful, it affects you emotionally – your psyche, your self-esteem, your dignity,” she explains. Ms. Stronach has already raised the first half of the funds necessary to create the $2 million Chair, which will establish a comprehensive program for patients seeking breast reconstruction.
